Our Work Packages
INSPIRE comprises nine distinct work packages (WP). Each focuses on a specific element of the palliative rehabilitation trial, from the investigation of the current state of rehabilitation across Europe to a full evaluation of the implementation, clinical effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of the INSPIRE trial.
This package is about preparing all of the information needed to set up the INSPIRE intervention for the randomised controlled trial. This includes all materials supporting the intervention, creating a handbook for clinicians working with INSPIRE participants, training individuals to implement INSPIRE, and piloting all developed materials before the trial commences.
This work package will assess how cost-effective the intervention may be for healthcare systems and society. Cost analysis will include a focus on hospital care costs from a healthcare perspective, the costs for informal caregivers and loved ones of individuals with cancer, and whether delivering INSPIRE may be more cost-effective than alternative healthcare approaches currently in place. This analysis will be informed by the results of work package 3, looking at the potential clinical benefits to individuals with cancer participating in the INSPIRE intervention.
We will be informed by the experience of individuals with cancer engaging with the INSPIRE intervention and examine whether certain factors, like age, culture, gender, religious background and personal beliefs, play a role in how the intervention was accessed and received. This will help us understand how to ensure that INSPIRE can be as inclusive and equitable as possible moving forward.
We will analyse whether the INSPIRE intervention was implemented successfully across all sites. This will include looking at potential factors that may contribute to the success or failure of implementation, how well the intervention was integrated with other healthcare services in each site and how effectively it was conducted.
This work package involves developing a framework for clinical practice based on the results of work packages 3-6 across all sites. This will include looking at referrals to the intervention and how an intervention can be successfully integrated with existing services.
We will share our findings throughout the project’s lifespan to patients, healthcare professionals, academics, local and international policy-makers, and members of the public with a view to impacting current practices with our new and evidence-based findings.
This work package will ensure all objectives of the INSPIRE project are met and all work packages are managed appropriately.
